Talk about an undertaking! Our client’s 2nd floor deck wrapped the home and provided an amazing view of wild life, while also providing a quiet place place to relax and soak in the serenity of the surrounds. One problem though – time had taken its toll on this structure. When going over the scope of the project, we had to make sure we walked on the joists to ensure that we wouldn’t fall through the rotten boards. To add to the headache, a few of the 20 foot tall 8×8 structural posts where rotting off in the ground and needed to be replaced. Quite a project, but we were up for the task!
Seeing pictures of this monster kind of puts it in perspective. New footers had to be poured for the new posts, so we supported the deck and went to work. We replaced the entire handrail and the decorative caps at the posts as well. The stringers for the rear steps remained in surprisingly good shape, so we replaced the treads to add some much needed stability. The project turned out fantastically, and our client loved the end result.
