Welcome back to another A+ Home Improvements’ project! The last couple of weeks we have introduced some of our latest exterior projects. Well, this time around we wanted to show off a master bath with a barrier free shower. Accessibility plays a big role in homes with clients thinking about the next chapter in their life. Our next project presented some obstacles that we needed to overcome. This house received an addition in years past, and the original bathroom footprint butted up to an exterior wall. The new space our client desired would need to straddle both the original structure and the new addition. With this in mind, we designed a space to fulfill the need. Take a look at what we started with:
Small space, right? We needed to delete the existing vanity and open the separating wall to create a larger bathroom foot print. This wall, however, was the original exterior wall. Due to the pitch of the roof, concealing the beam in the ceiling was not an option. We were able to design the new vanity area to be split by the support beam that we had to install. While no one wants an exposed beam, this design offered the best compromise available. With this figured out, we turned to the highlight of the bathroom – the barrier free shower. In addition to the shower enclosure, we also installed heated flooring to take the chill out of the master bathroom. As you see below, the tile flooring flowed seamlessly into the shower enclosure, which created an extremely accessible shower pan. Take a look:
Huge difference!! To create more space, we robbed some of the walk in closet to widen the bathroom. What project are you trying to tackle. With our team of office staff, installers and designers, we can work with you to turn your dreams into a reality. Give us a call – we look forward to working with you!
