Welcome back to another A+ Home Improvements’ project! As I sit here writing this, I am fully aware that the weather has taken a turn for the colder. Unfortunately, a front porch repair doesn’t take weather into consideration! While poor weather conditions sometimes halt projects in their tracks, we do our best to complete projects in an efficient manner. Our next client’s front porch continued to deteriorate, and desperately needed repaired before it was too late. While they knew the porch roof presented a problem, the homeowner struggled to find someone to actually show up and provide pricing to tackle it. We stopped out and put together a game plan to rectify the issue ,and geared up to knock it out of the park. Take a look at what we started with:
The front porch consisted of a rubber flat roof with handrails above and below. Unknown to the homeowner, however, was that the handrails had been installed improperly. The fastening method used by the original installer allowed water to permeate the structure, leading to rotten framing. If you take a closer look at the beams, you will see where it was rotting away from the inside and crushing the actual supporting structure. We started with the idea of replacing the beams and posts, along with the roofing system. However, after opening up the soffit, we found that the joists themselves were shot and needed to be replaced. We presented the homeowner with the situation, keeping them in the loop during the process. The project turned out beautifully, with a new structure and vinyl handrails to withstand the test of time:
