Welcome back to another A+ Home Improvements’ project! The current weather allows us to keep tackling exterior projects, and our next one consists of a deck with cable railings. The existing property consisted of 2 decks – an upper one the client wished to keep, and a lower one that was in bad disarray. Our client wanted the lower one deleted completely, and the other one brought back to life. After looking at the structure, we determined that the framing was fine and that we just needed to replace the deck floor. While already being renovated, the homeowner decided to update the deck with cable railings as well. Take a look at what we started with:

Somebody added the lower deck at a different time. The structure simply sat on the ground with no footers or support at all. We ripped that one out and removed the deck boards and handrails from the upper structure. We only found one small section of joist that needed repair, but other than that good to go. With that all set, we installed a new treated deck board floor along with a new step. The cool part, however, was the cable railings. We installed stainless steel cable rails that provided a clean see through appearance for the new structure. Take a look:

Beautiful!

Totally new look!! Our client loved the new deck – especially the new cable railings. Deck handrails come in a number of different styles, from traditional treated balusters to cable railings and composite railings. It really comes down to the look that you’re trying to achieve.
