Welcome back to another exciting A+ Home Improvements’ project! Our next project elicited joy from our workers and the homeowners alike. We tackle dozens of decks annually, with all shapes and sizes filling up our board. This next project presented some unique attributes that set it aside from standard, run-of-the-mill structures. The existing deck had run its course, with support posts falling off of the peers and the deck just being in general disarray overall. The original builders severely under-framed the deck, which had caused failures in more than one way. They had also connected to the home without proper flashing, causing rotten sheathing and framing under the siding. We drew up a design for a large pool deck that would fit the homeowners needs, and went to work getting all the materials needed. Take a look at what we started with:
Notice the pool in the background? Our homeowner desired a deck spanning from the home all the way to the pool. The change in elevation allowed us to frame a two tier deck with a large staircase connecting them. Another unique feature was creating a spot for the dogs while the family was out playing. We enclosed the underside of the deck with stairs leading down to it to create a dog run. The final results were stunning, take a look:
