Welcome back to another A+ Home Improvements’ project!! While we love tackling large, ornate projects, not all projects are labeled “sexy.” Sometimes we complete projects based strictly on necessity. Our next client’s home offered a beautiful rear deck to sit out and enjoy their coffee on, but years of wear and tear turned it into a sinking deck. The original structure was framed with rough sawn 2x cedar as opposed to treated lumber. While cedar naturally resists decay, it is only a matter of time before the elements take their toll. Also, the support column began to rot and sink. Take a look at the pictures the below to see the extent of the damage:

Not the safest structure in the world. You can see in one of the pictures where we had to install bracing in order to jack it back up. We lifted the deck over 6 inches to level it out, and added the proper footers and post to support the structure. For the beams, we supported the existing rafters and installed treated 2x beams to carry the load. Take a look at the results:

As previously mentioned, this is not a job that screams “sexy”, although it was completely necessary. Our repairs enabled our client to go back to enjoying the views from a steady surface. Are you worried about your sinking deck? Whether your deck needs repaired or replaced, we look forward to helping you out. Give us a call to get your project started today.
