Welcome back to another A+ Home Improvements’ project! Exterior projects continue to keep us busy this summer, and our next project consisted of installing a block retaining wall. When we arrived to this client’s home, the problem immediately hit us as we pulled up. At some point, a previous home owner installed a timber retaining wall. The issue, however, was that they didn’t install any kind of drainage for the wall, which had caused it to fail miserably. The walls leaned precariously over the driveway, seemingly ready to go at any time. We went over material selections with our client, and prepped to remedy the situation. Take a look at what we started with:
We extracted the existing structure and cut back the asphalt to provide a clean starting point for our new block retaining wall. To avoid premature failure, it is imperative to install a proper footer for support. In addition to this, installing a drainage tile with stone remains a vital step in producing a lasting project. The block contained hollow cavities, which allowed us to fill the cores with stone as well. A little elbow grease later, and the new retaining wall was complete. Take a look:
Success!! Talk about a huge difference! Our client has received multiple compliments from their neighbors, and more importantly, they love the new look. If you need a hand with your retaining wall, give us a call to go over your project. We look forward to working with you!
