A+ Home Improvements just helped our latest client with a front porch repair. After years of neglect, this porch showed its age. At some point, someone replaced the floor of the porch with plywood. Through years of wear and tear, the porch began to show signs of deterioration. To compound the matter, the steps consisted of cracking precast concrete that no longer provided a viable surface for the handrails. We consulted with our client and provided a gameplan to tackle this project. Instead of installing a band-aid, we removed the floor, replaced the supports posts and install new wood steps to match the new porch lid. Let’s see what we started with:
At some point, a previous homeowner coated the floor in an effort to squeeze a couple more years out of it. Luckily we found an intact foundation that still provided a strong base to fabricate our new structure on. Porch caps come in various styles, typically consisting of wood or concrete. We opted for treated tongue and groove porch boards that catered to the house’s age. We replaced the black metal support posts with treated lumber and installed matching handrails to pull it all together. Our client loved the results:
Renovating a porch remains a fairly straight-forward project, but a poor installation definitely leads to regret. Poorly built structures fail prematurely, causing unnecessary additional expenses for a home owner. Do you need a front porch repair? Get the job done right the first time.
