Decks come in all shapes and sizes. An airing deck provides an escape from the hustle and bustle inside of your home. Sometimes referred to as a “widow’s walk”, this small airing deck is a perfect addition off of your bedroom. Our client had a small apartment-type structure near their pool, and the rear airing deck was rotting through. We rebuilt it to provide a safe space to utilize.
As you can see, this is not a large space. It does, however, add character to the rear of the room. Underneath the deck is an access to storage underneath the unit as well. When installing treated lumber, it is advisable to allow the wood to season before applying stain or any kind of finish. Rule of thumb calls for the wood to season around 3 months, but this can vary depending on weather conditions and the moisture content of the lumber when it was originally installed.
